THIRTY SECONDS TO MARS / WALK THE MOON

Walk The Moon and Thirty Seconds To Mars brought their current tour to Tampa at the Mid-Florida Credit Union Amphitheater at the end of June. Walk The Moon enjoyed major crossover success a few years ago with their smash single “Shut Up And Dance” and are supporting their follow-up album. The band was energetic and their enthusiasm never waned during their set. They also sounded great as they kept the energy of the crowd up with tracks like “Kamikaze” and “Different Colors.”

There was a long break between sets as Thirty Seconds to Mars took the stage at around 945 PM. The Amphitheater has hard cut off at 11 PM so my friend and I were happy with had taken advantage of the Live Nation Summer Sale as we knew the show would be short. Jared Leto and his brother, Shannon took the stage with Jared looking like a hippy Jesus. Their set opened with an incredibly long version of “Up In The Air” and Jared and Shannon were housed on a very minimalist stage with just a drum set and screens with two more musicians kept from sight. They blew through some of their well-known anthems like “Closer To The Edge” and “Kings & Queens.” Jared wooed the audience to stoke his ego and even brought a slew of fans on the stage for the finale. Thirty Seconds To Mars succeeded on reminding us they are rock emo Gods and while it was a decent show, you had to feel a little bad for the people who paid for full price tickets.
